According to a pool report, the debate venue was very quiet as Trump and Biden sparred – with one notable exception.
Wall Street Journal reporter Rebecca Ballhaus writes, “The audience was nearly completely silent during the debate, save for one giggle when Potus quipped: ‘I know more about wind than you do. It’s extremely expensive. Kills all the birds.’”
In exchange on energy policy, Pres. Trump says, “I know more about wind than you do. It’s extremely expensive. Kills all the birds. It’s very intermittent. It’s got a lot of problems.” https://t.co/VXBv1PU9iL #Debates2020 pic.twitter.com/84eMXSiNvq
The early verdicts are in from the pundits on social media, and it seems like the winner is … Kristen Welker.
winner of the debate is obviously kristen welker
trump cleared the bar for himself, that is, he didn’t rant and rave again.
biden had a very solid performance.
no game changers here in either direction means, i think, that this is a good result for biden.
The winner of tonight’s debate is none other than @kwelkernbc. This debate felt normal. #Debates2020
Fox’s @brithume: “I thought Trump gave his best debate performance perhaps ever — but I think the vice president, the former vice president fought him to at least a draw.”
“I don’t know this debate will change the state of the race. I think probably not.”
When the worst possible thing Biden’s opponents can say about a his performance is “he looked at his watch,” maybe your guy lost.
Biden was again imperfect from a fact check perspective. He made at least a few false, misleading, or lacking-in-context claims.
Trump was, as usual, a serial liar.
